Something about Paypal you should know...

I had recently (reluctantly) accepted a NRD deposit (payment as friends) from someone on the condition that follow-up payments would be sent by a certain date. A couple of days prior to the due date for his first post-NRD payment, I sent the fellow a friendly reminder telling him that his first post-NRD payment would be due. Anyway, he assured me that money would be sent on time. The date passed and I did not receive payment nor did he say he was going to be late or why.

After the date passed, I let him know that he was now in violation of our clearly identified terms and conditions of our deal. I was well within my rights not deal with him anymore, keep the NRD, and consider selling to others in line for the piece.

This is the point when you see a person's true colors. Do they accept that they didn't follow through and be a man about it or do they open a PayPal claim saying they never received their product even though they know full well they were completely in the wrong about how things transpired. What do you think? You guessed it.

So I follow-up with Paypal as I thought you can't file against cash-gifts to friends. PayPal says that cash-gifts to friends payment are not guaranteed type payments. People can still file claims against you if they paid through their bank or with their credit card. All this to say, I'll be returning this fellow's deposit since he clearly needs the cash more than I do, even if it comes at the cost of his integrity. Just wanted to give you a head's up that even though someone may have sent you a cash-gift through PayPal, it does not mean then can't file with PayPal to get it back.
